Elgeyo Marakwet County has been struck by another landslide, just a day after a deadly one in Chesongoch area claimed 26 lives.

According to a statement posted on Facebook, Governor Wisley Rotich announced that the landslide hit Kibendo in Keiyo North following overnight heavy downpours.
“We have just experienced another landslide at Kibendo in Keiyo North due to the torrential rains and the unfortunate has happened,” governor Rotich wrote on Facebook.
He added that the county’s emergency response team together with the office of Area MP team and ambulances are already on site to support rescue efforts.
The governor further urged residents living on fragile areas to relocate to higher grounds.
“We urge all Elgeyo Marakwet County residents who live on fragile areas along the escarpment to move to higher grounds.I beg each one of us to listen,its extraordinary times and needs each of us to comply to save lives,” he stated.
Kenya Red Cross also confirmed the latest landslide, asserting that their response teams are en route to the location.
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reported that the death toll from the Marakwet East’s Chesongoch has risen to 26 following the recovery of more bodies on Sunday November 2, 2025.
Murkomen also noted that search and rescue efforts are ongoing with 25 people still unaccounted for, while 26 are hospitalized.
