DCI foils major terror plot, recovers suspected Al-Shabaab uniforms in Eastleigh raid

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced a major breakthrough in the fight against terror-linked logistics networks, following the recovery of a consignment of suspected Al-Shabaab (AS) combat uniforms in Eastleigh.

In a statement issued on Wednesday morning, the DCI stated that a multi-agency team conducted an intelligence-led operation in the early hours of Tuesday night within the Eastleigh KBS Garage area, leading to the seizing of the consignment.

According to the DCI, the operation, led by by officers from DCI Starehe and the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), was triggered by earlier intelligence following a critical interception in Dhobley on 6th April 2026.

The detectives managed to recover 11 bales, each containing 60 full camouflage uniforms 120 T-shirts. An additional bale yielded65 uniforms alongside 120 T-shirts.

DCI said the items were discovered at Vision Point Express, a neighboring facility, where they had been temporarily stored due to limited space at Gaani Parcel Express.

“Investigations quickly unraveled a complex network. The intercepted consignment had reportedly been destined for a suspect identified as Abdi Hakim, who remains in custody in Dhobley. Further leads traced part of the shipment to Eastleigh, Nairobi, specifically to Gaani Parcel Express, a logistics outlet along 12th Street within the bustling KBS area,” DCI announced.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the manager of Gaani Parcel Express, Omar Elmi Issack, had arranged for the temporary storage of the consignment after receiving it from an individual identified as Sharif,” the investigative body added.

Upon thorough probe, investigators were led to Safe Link Cargo, a firm located at Soma Towers, believed to have facilitated the importation of a larger batch totaling 37 bales of suspected AS fatigues. The cargo is reported to have originated from China and entered the country through the Port of Mombasa under the guise of consolidated shipments.

The DCI noted that one Abdiftah Aden Muhammed, an employee at Safe Link Cargo, has been linked to the shipment’s clearance and coordination, with investigations establishing connections between Abdiftah, Sharif, and another individual identified as Abdikadir, forming a critical chain in the suspected supply network.

All recovered items have been secured and properly documented as exhibits, with several key suspects currently in custody under ATPU, assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the entire network behind the operation.
