CS Salim Mvurya Gazettes 38-Member AFCON 2027 Organizing Committee

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has announced a 38-member PAMOJA AFCON 2027 organizing committee, as part of preparations for the continental tournament set to take place in early 2027.

In a gazette notice dated March 30, 2026, Salim Mvurya stated that the committee, chaired by Nicholas Musonye and deputized by Hussein Mohammed, will be tasked with ensuring the successful co-hosting of the 36th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

“WHEREAS, Gazette Notice No. 16099 of 2024 established the PAMOJA CHAN 2024 and PAMOJA AFCON 2027 MULTI-AGENCY TEAM (CHAN-AFCON MAT). NOW THEREFORE on account of complexities, logistics and magnitude of preparations required for successfully co-hosting the 36th Edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations-2027 set to take place in early 2027, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Executive Order No. 1 of 2025 and the Sports Act, Cap. 223 do establish the PAMOJA AFCON 2027 LOCAL ORGANISING COMMITTEE (LOC),” read part of the notice.

CS Mvurya noted that the African Nations Championship (CHAN) held last year across three East African nations, served as a preparatory initiative for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the same countries are set to co-host.

The 38 member include Nicholas Musonye (Chairperson) Hussein Mohammed (Vice-Chairperson), Evans Achoki, McDonald Mariga, Brig. Titus Sokobe, Osman Abdi, June Chepkemei, Mary Mwiti, Nuh Ibrahim and Agnes Kalekye.

Others are; Douglas Ratemo, Timothy Kilimo, Dr. Doreen Odhiambo, Lilian Nyavada, Lordrick Aduda, K. K. Mutai, Juma Maulidi Wahoga, Rebecca Natabo Ekwam, Robert Macharia, Timothy Nabea, Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, Ahmed Qadar Dabar, Gabriel Mghendi, Peter Kamau, Kerubo Momanyi, Benard Lagat, Collins Kalee, Caleb Amwayi and Ken Rungu.

Dan Shikanda, Charles Njagi, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget, Miriam Chepkoech, Rodgers Chimega, Diana Injendi Manyengo and Collins Were are also among the committee members.

According to CS Mvurya the committee will mobilize stakeholder collaboration, and oversee governance structures to guarantee accountability and efficiency, coordinate logistical frameworks, and engage with stakeholders, including government bodies, sponsors, and international organizations, to deliver events that meet global standards.

The PAMOJA AFCON 2027 organizing committee will also oversee budget preparation, resource mobilization, and financial accountability, monitor project timelines and provide progress updates to CAF, the Kenyan Government, and stakeholders, oversee the renovation and upgrade of stadiums to meet CAF requirements in terms of seating capacity, pitch quality and guarantee safety and security.

Other tasks include: overseeing construction of new sports facilities and training grounds, where necessary, ensuring upgrades to transport, telecommunications, and other critical infrastructure, collaborating with CAF to organize team draws, match schedules, and venue allocations, facilitating high quality live coverage and transmission of matches globally and managing ticketing, stadium operations, and fan zones in a secure and transparent manner.
