The Kahawa Law Courts has given detectives 14 days to detain Andrew Chacha Mwita, a prominent Mombasa-based lawyer.

The 14- day custodial order granted by the court will allow Terrorism Police Unit to investigate the allegations on terrorism financing and facilitation, which led to Chacha’s arrest on November 14, 2025.
Lawyer Chacha was transferred to Nairobi on November 15, 2025 for further investigations, after which he was presented before the Kahawa Law Courts on November 17, 2025, following a miscellaneous application seeking the custodial order necessary for comprehensive investigations.
He was first arraigned in court on November 17, after being arrested in Mombasa on Friday, November 14, 2025, for allegedly facilitating and financing terror activities nationwide. The counterterrorism operation also targeted terror supporters, financiers, and beneficiaries in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kapseret, Moyale, and Marsabit.
According to detectives, Chacha received money through different mobile number believed to be his accomplices
“He used multiple mobile phone numbers to receive funds from Binance accounts allegedly connected to the financing of terrorist activities both locally and internationally, said DCI.
Principal Prosecution Counsel , James Machirah, outlined the charges before Principal Magistrate Gideon Kiage, which were all denied by Mwita’s legal team. They argued that providing legal representation to terror suspects is not a criminal act, describing the case as an attempt by the State to frustrate lawyers from offering their services .
The prosecution had requested a 20 days custodial order. However, the court granted detectives 14 days to detain Mwita, effective from November 17, 2025.
The case mentioning will be held on December 1, 2025.
