Notorious Phone Snatcher Arrested in Nairobi’s Majengo as Police Recover Toy Pistol, Cannabis

A suspected serial phone snatcher linked to a string of robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands has been arrested after he was caught allegedly robbing a member of the public in Majengo, police have said.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, July 22, during a routine patrol by officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station operating within Buruburu Sub-County.

Police said the officers found the suspect in the act of violently robbing a victim in the Majengo slums. The suspect had allegedly forcefully stolen the victim’s mobile phone and KSh3,000 in cash before officers intervened and apprehended him.

A search conducted immediately after the arrest led to the recovery of a toy pistol believed to have been used to intimidate victims during robberies. Officers also recovered the stolen mobile phone and 152 rolls of cannabis sativa from the suspect.

The suspect was taken into police custody, where he is being processed ahead of his arraignment in court. All the recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations and the expected prosecution.

In a statement, the National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime across the country, saying sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations remain key in addressing street robberies and other criminal activities.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating criminality county-wide. We urge members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement officers to ensure safety and security for all,” the NPS said.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue working closely with security agencies in the fight against crime.
