Six people lost their lives while seven others sustained injuries following a tragic road accident involving two lorries and a passenger bus along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Kapiti Plains in Machakos County.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. and involved two lorries travelling in opposite directions and a Tahmeed passenger bus.
Preliminary police reports indicate that a lorry heading from Mombasa towards Nairobi collided with an oncoming lorry, triggering a chain-reaction collision.
The force of the impact reportedly caused one of the lorries to lose control before veering into the path of the oncoming Tahmeed bus, resulting in a devastating head-on crash.
Police confirmed that the driver of the first lorry and the driver of the passenger bus died at the scene. Four passengers travelling aboard the bus also lost their lives, bringing the total number of fatalities to six.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident and rescued several passengers trapped in the wreckage. Seven people who sustained various injuries were rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims as efforts to notify their families continue. The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.
Meanwhile, the damaged vehicles have been towed to Kyumbi Police Station as investigators work to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
The latest accident adds to the growing number of fatal road crashes reported on the busy Nairobi–Mombasa Highway, a key transport corridor that has witnessed numerous deadly collisions in recent years.
Road safety agencies continue to urge motorists to observe traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds, and exercise extra caution, particularly during night travel, to help reduce the rising number of accidents on Kenyan roads.
