Kenyans can now download and print birth certificates online, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced, in a move aimed at improving access to essential government services and reducing the time required to obtain critical civil registration documents.

Murkomen said the development is among several reforms undertaken by the Department to enhance service delivery and respond to issues raised by citizens during the Jukwaa la Usalama public engagement forums.
The CS noted that the digitization of birth certificate services is expected to improve convenience for citizens by reducing the need for physical visits to government offices and streamlining the document acquisition process.
“In response to issues raised during the Jukwaa la Usalama engagements, Kenyans can now download and print birth certificates online, a significant step towards improving accessibility and reducing the time required to obtain essential documents.,” said Murkomen.
He also highlighted the continued decentralisation of passport issuance services, revealing that plans are underway to establish physical passport application and collection centres in Kilifi County, in addition to counties already offering the service.
According to Murkomen, the expansion is intended to bring immigration services closer to wananchi and reduce the cost and inconvenience associated with travelling long distances to access government services.
The Interior CS further cited improvements in the e-Citizen platform, saying the government has continued to streamline access to public services through digital platforms while enhancing efficiency and user experience.
He added that efforts are also being made to strengthen consular services for Kenyans living and working abroad to ensure they receive timely and effective support when needed.
“As we begin the new Financial Year, we remain committed to supporting reforms and innovations that enhance service delivery, improve citizen experience, and ensure government services are accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all Kenyans,” Murkomen said.
The reforms form part of the government’s broader agenda to digitize public services and improve access to government programmes through technology-driven solutions.
