Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that most of the goons who attacked Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu on April 8 fled the country after the incident.

Speaking when he appeared before the Security Committee in the National Assembly on Tuesday, April 21, Murkomen stated that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has initiated an operation to trace and arrest them.
CS Murkomen was responding to Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, who told the National Assembly that while 17 suspects were said to have attacked senator Osotsi, only three had presented themselves to police.
In response, Murkomen said that 13 or 14 of the suspects fled Kenya shortly after the attack.
“The DCI circulated some pictures, some of them presented themselves to the police while 14 of them ran out of the country to the neighbouring countries,” he stated.
“The IG and DCI are on them, working with the authority in the neighbouring country, and we will arrest all of them eventually as soon as they set foot in the country and they will act as example,” he added.
Osotsi was attacked on April 8 at a Java restaurant in Kisumu’s Acacia area, where a group of armed individuals reportedly confronted him and questioned his political allegiance.
CCTV footage shows the senator being dragged to the ground and attacked. He sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment, spending days recuperating at Karen Hospital.
Detectives in Kisumu later arrested three suspects, Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga, both from Nyalenda, and Eric Otieno alias Dude from Manyatta, alleged to be behind the attack.
The three suspects were arraigned before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Daniel Chumba, where they pleaded not guilty to two counts of robbery with violence and stealing, contrary to the Penal Code.
The court granted each accused a bond of KSh1 million and scheduled the case for mention on May 6, 2026.
