Speaking in an interview on Radio Citizen, the PLP leader stressed that the Office of the President is not a personal entitlement, but a position to serve the public.

“An elected office is not your personal property. It is not a title deed. It is a duty you have been given by the citizens, and you can be fired at any time,” Karua said.

Karua also criticized some leaders for focusing on second-term politics and early re-election campaigns instead of delivering on their promises to Kenyans and addressing the country’s pressing needs.

She further mentioned that there was urgent need to “end the culture of entitlement in leadership”, noting that public office should be about service, accountability, and delivering results rather than privilege.

In a statement on her X platform, Martha Karua reiterated that if elected President, she would serve for only one five-year term and would not seek re-election.

She stated that one term in office is sufficient for a visionary leader to deliver on their manifesto, noting that she made transformational reforms while she served in the Ministry of Water.

“As President, I am prepared to serve one term, focused on laying a strong foundation for the transformation we need,” Karua wrote on X.

“Five years is enough to deliver meaningful change when priorities are right. I did it before in the Ministry of Water, real reforms can be achieved with clarity and commitment,” Karua added.
