Shell Kenya has announced that fuel shortages has hit select Shell stations across the country due to high demand.

In a statement on Thursday March 26, 2026, by Vivo Energy Kenya, the company confirmed that some of its service stations have experienced fuel shortages following a surge in demand.
“Vivo Energy Kenya, the company that distributes and markets Shell products and services in the country, would like to update our customers and partners on the current fuel supply situation across our Shell service station network,” the statement read in part.
The company further asserted that the increase in demand for Shell products have resulted in temporary stock-outs at some of the outlets, disrupting flow of services and motorists.
Shell Kenya, however, noted that it is closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to replenish the affected pumps and restore normal operations.
“We have recently experienced increased demand for our products, which has resulted in temporary stock-outs at some service stations. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and working continuously to replenish affected sites as quickly as possible,” the company affirmed.
“We appreciate your continued patronage and apologize for the inconveniences caused by this and remain fully committed to serving our customers reliably and ensuring that our service stations and the essential services that depend on us stay supplied,” Shell added.
This comes amid an anticipated fuel crisis in the country due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted global oil supplies.
On Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary for Energy Opiyo Wandayi assured Kenyans of adequate fuel stocks sufficient to meet the needs of both consumers and industries.
He further warned oil marketing companies against hoarding fuel in anticipation of higher prices expected in next month’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) review, adding that hoarding would be treated as a serious offence under the law.
“We will take stringent action against any Oil Marketing Company found hoarding fuel. Licences will not be shielded from revocation,” he warned.
