Police officers in Nairobi have successfully recovered a large cache of suspected stolen and illegally manufactured motor vehicle registration plates during a targeted operation in Kariobangi South on Friday 6th, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was carried out by police officers from Buruburu and Dandora Police Stations, after members of the public had reported to them about suspicious activities going on in a certain residential house in the area.
The house is believed to have been used for the illegal processing and storage of vehicle identification materials.
During the raid, officers seized 34 complete registration plates, 67 incomplete plates consisting of both front and rear plates, 34 half-cut plates, three rolls of chassis number stickers, one roll of blue iron sheeting, two rolls of white and yellow reflective sheets and various number plate frames.
According to the police, the items recovered point to a well-coordinated operation which could possibly be linked to a broader network involving manufacturing and alteration of vehicle licence plates.
The seized items, the police say, have been secured as exhibits and will pass undergo forensic examination to establish their source and any potential links to previous vehicle-related crimes.
The suspect connected to the premise escaped narrowly during the raid and is currently the main subject of an established manhunt by the officers which is expected to lead to his arrest and that of any other culprits associating with him.
NPS has commended the vigilance of the officers and applauded the members of the public for contributing to the success of the operation.
The service also reaffirmed its commitment to combating vehicle-related crimes including the falsification of registration numbers and the trafficking of stolen motor vehicle parts.
