Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale claims his security detail has been withdrawn, raising concerns over his personal safety

Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale has claimed that his security detail has been withdrawn by the state.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale

Speaking during a press conference in Kakamega town on Wednesday November 26, Senator Khalawale stated that six of his bodyguards were withdrawn without prior notice.

“My security details have been pulled without any warning or explanation,” Khalwale said adding that the action is a plot by the government to intimidate him due to political differences.

The outspoken Senator also alleged that there are plans to arrest him ahead of tomorrow’s by-elections. He however maintained that he is not afraid of any arrest having faced similar scenarios in the past.

“I hear that they want to arrest me. Please do not waste your fuel, I will either sleep in my home, which is very well known or in memory of Peter Soita Shitanda, I will sleep at his hotel,” the Senator said.

“Do not waste your fuel, just come to my home, and I will accompany you in the usual way. I have been arrested, teargassed and shot at for so many years,” he added.

Despite being elected on a UDA ticket in the 2022 general elections, Khalwale has thrown his weight behind DAP-K’s Seth Panyako in the Malava Parliamentary by-elections, opposing his own Party’s candidate David Ndakwa.

Khalwale’s allegations comes just hours after TransNzoia governor George Natembeya also made similar claims, accusing the government of withdrawing his security without lawful justification.

In a statement shared on his socials, Natembeya stated that the alleged action violates the “National Police Service Act, Sections 30 and 31, which obligate the Inspector-General to provide security to State officers whose roles and public engagements expose them to heightened risk.”

While calling on the National Police Service to reinstate his security detail, Governor Natembeya expressed concern that the withdrawal puts his safety at risk.

“There is no court order, no disciplinary communication, and no official explanation for this decision. It not only endangers my safety but also interferes with the smooth execution of county duties,” he said.
