Meru County detectives arrest six robbery suspects, seize two Falcon pistols

A team of multi-agency detectives in Meru have broken up an alleged violent robbery syndicate, arresting six suspects and recovering two Falcon pistols in a coordinated operation across Mutuati and Igembe North Sub-Counties.

After weeks of covert surveillance and discreet intelligence, the officers stormed a series of suspected hideouts, catching the group by surprise, as they allegedly plotted their next attack.

The crackdown, according to the investigators, marks a major breakthrough in curbing robberies that had destabilized the region in recent months.

The detectives seized two falcon pistols which were loaded with three rounds of live ammunition during the arrest. They also recovered two unregistered motorcycles, dismantled motorbike components and additional exhibits which are believed to have been used in criminal activities.

The police stated that the items paint a picture of a well-organized network engaged in both motor-cycle related crimes and armed robbery.

The weapons have been since presented to the ballistics experts for forensic analysis, and try to link the firearms to other crimes meted in the area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Derrick Kithinji, Aaron Mwendia, Amon Muarangiri, Antony Munene, Francis Mugambi and Ambrose Muriithi. They are currently held in custody, and are expected to be arraigned in court today as further investigations continue.

With the festive season approaching, a period often associated with increased criminal activity, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has sounded a warning that officers are on heightened alert.

The agency further warned criminals that intensified operations will continue across the country, with a firm resolve to dismantle similar syndicates before they can act.

According to the officers, the successful operation highlights the DCI’s commitment to ensuring public safety and restoring confidence among residents, as the festive season approaches.
