The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Kisumu County City Manager Michael Abala Wanga for processing and arraignment, over a series of corruption-related allegations.

Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga

In a notice released on November 13, 2025, the EACC revealed that it had obtained concurrence from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), to formally charge the senior county official.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has received the concurrence of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prefer charges against Mr. Michael Abala Wanga, the Kisumu County City Manager,” the EACC statement read in part.

According to the Commission, the charges stem from claims that Wanga used forged academic certificates to secure his position as City Manager.

“We direct Kisumu County City Manager Mr Michael Abala Wanga to present himself to the EACC headquarters Integrity Centre, Nairobi immediately for processing and arrangements”, said Abdi Mohammed, secretary chief executive officer of the commission.

EACC further alleged that Wanga used forged documents to facilitate the foreign travel of a female non-staff member, who accompanied him on an official trip to Lagos, Nigeria, between July 8 and 12, 2024.

Wanga is expected to face multiple charges including forgery under section 345 as read with section 349 of the Penal Code, fraudulent acquisition of public property under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes of Act 2003 and uttering false documents contrary to section 353 as read to section 349 of the panel code, and presenting forged certificates contrary to section 34(a) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act.

The EACC has directed Wanga to report to the Integrity Centre in Nairobi immediately for processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
