Grief engulfed Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday morning after an elderly man, who had a case before the court, died shortly after arriving within the court premises.

While confirming the unfortunate incident, Judiciary Spokesperson Hon. Paul Ndemo stated that the 75-year-old checked in visibly unwell.
“It is with sadness that the Judiciary reports an incident at Bungoma Law Courts where a man, who had a matter before court, died while within the court precincts,” Hon. Ndemo confirmed.
He said that the deceased showed up at around 9am, carried on a motorcycle. He was handed a priority card, often given to elderly persons, expectant mothers, PWDS and those who are sick, to ensure priority and expedited service.
According to Ndemo, the man proceeded to lie down on the grass after informing court officers that he was waiting for his advocate to arrive.
An official later went to give him further updates regarding his case but found him unresponsive.
Police and medics were called in and it was determined that he had died. “The police processed the scene and the body of the deceased was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Morgue.”
Bungoma County police commander Anderson Njagi, affirmed the incident occurred, adding that the man had a history of heart complications.
“The deceased is from Chwele and had a history of heart complications according to investigations,” Njagi said.
