The National Police Service (NPS) has finally confirmed that Kenyan police officer, Benedict Kabiru, who went missing during the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti, is dead.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 25 September 2025, NPS said that Benedict Kabiru was reported missing on March 25, after their convoy was ambushed on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area.
According to the police service, the family of Kabiru was promptly informed of the tragic incident, and has continued to receive updates regarding the search of their kin’s body.
“The officer had been reported missing while on duty the previous day, on March 25, following an ambush on the Carrefour Paye-Savien main supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of the Artibonite Department,” a statement from the NPS read.
“In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified.”
NPS further stated that the Multinational Security Support Mission in collaboration with the Haitan National Police (HNP), are working closely to locate the body of the missing officer and resolve the matter.
The police service also asserted that the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a tragic road accident on 1st September 2025, will arrive in Nairobi on 26th September 2025.
“The NPS remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property,” said Muchangi Nyaga, Spokesperson for the NPS.
Kenya deployed its police officers to Haiti in 2024 to try restore normalcy in the conflict-ridden country.
Spokesperson Muchangi Nyaga affirmed Kenya’s dedication to achieving the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti in full compliance with the international law.
