Boyd Were, son of late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, clinches ODM ticket ahead of November by-elections.

Boyd Were, the son of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, has clinched the ODM ticket and will fly the party’s flag in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.

The 27-year-old garnered 18,210 votes in the primaries conducted on Wednesday, and was declared winner by the Returning Officer Felix Ngala, at Rachuonyo South Sub-County tallying centre.

Newton Ogada came second with 3,037 votes, followed by Daniel Okindo Majiwa wih 621 votes. Dr. Adell Ottoman claimed the fourth position with 463 votes while former radio presenter George Otieno, popularly known as Ajo Mbuta, came last with 396 votes.

Homabay County governor and ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga, congratulated Boyd Were for his victory, urging all candidates in the just concluded primaries to support Were ahead of the by-elections.

“I wish to congratulate Boyd Were wholeheartedly for his victory in the ODM party primaries. The people of Kasipul have spoken, and they have chosen a candidate they believe will champion their interests,” Wanga wote on X.

“This is the time for unity. I urge all leaders and supporters to back Boyd fully as we now focus on the greater task of winning the by-election and bringing transformative development to Kasipul.”

In his victory speech, Boyd pledged to continue with the development projects started by his father, if elected Member of Parliament for Kasipul constituency.

He will compete against businessman Philip Aroko, who is running on an independent ticket.

Aroko was previously arrested and treated as prime suspect in the murder of Charles Were. He was however freed after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), reviewed the evidence and listed him as state witness.
