Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the MPs the lawmakers led by Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, accused Soipan Tuya of ignoring their grievances, in which they demanded the allocation of more recruitment centers in the county.

They dismissed the just released KDF recruitment notice, labelling it as discriminatory to the youthful residents of Nairobi.

“We have represented the issues to the minister; she does not even have the courtesy and the respect for the people we represent, to respond to the issues we have asked,” Sifuna lamented.

“How else do we get our people heard? I will support the decision we will make. We must pursue all avenues, we will go to court, we will bring her to parliament so that the voice of the Nairobi residents can be heard,” he added.

The legislators further threatened to use lawful means to halt the recruitment exercise in the entire country until their complaints are addressed.

“If this does not change, we will stop the recruitment of KDF officers in the entire country unless Nairobi is treated in the same manner as the other 46 counties.”

Eighteen Nairobi MPs, via a statement dated September 16, 2025, faulted the itinerary of Kenya Defence Forces recruitment exercise, saying it lacked the principles of fairness as stipulated in the constitution.

The statement which was forwarded by Embakasi West MP and National Assembly Minority Whip Mark Mwenje, stated that the KDF schedule discriminated Nairobi despite the large population.

KDF designated Nyayo Stadium to serve Embakasi (East, West, North and South), Kamukunji, Makadara and Starehe constituencies, while Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani will host recruits from Kasarani, Ruaraka, Mathare and Roysambu constituencies.

Residents from Dagoretti (North, South), Lang’ata, Kibra and Westlands constituencies will present themselves at Jamhuri Grounds.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) announced on Sunday, September 14, that it will be conducting a nationwide recruitment process, covering various categories including General Service Officers (GSO) cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and Women, and Defence Forces Constables.
