The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Bomet branch has demanded a thorough investigation into the sudden death of Kaplong Boys High School Chief Principal, Mike Yator, as mystery shrouds the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Yator, who was found dead on Tuesday morning in his residence within the school compound, had shown no signs of illness the previous day — leaving the school community questioning whether his death was natural or orchestrated.
According to the school’s Board of Management (BOM) chairperson, Edmond Rono, the principal was in high spirits on Monday, addressing students during assembly and later chairing a staff meeting where he passionately outlined the school’s plans for the term.
“That evening, Yator went about his routine, supervising students during preps and holding a meeting with his deputies and the school bursar,” he said.
However, the following morning, when Yator failed to show up for a scheduled meeting, a teacher sent to check on him found his lifeless body on the floor of his sitting room — sparking speculation on whether his death was a peaceful passing or a sinister act.
Yator’s lifeless body was found on a chair, with food still on the table.
Kuppet Bomet branch Secretary Paul Kimetto urged the police to expedite investigations, emphasising that Yator’s family and the teaching community deserve answers.
“We, as a union, urge the state to expedite the investigation into Yator’s death so that his family can receive justice,” Kimetto stated.
Kimetto expressed his condolences to Yator’s family and friends, calling his death a tragic loss for the teaching profession.
“This is a regrettable incident, and I am deeply saddened by the loss. May God rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed that investigations had been launched, assuring the public that no stone would be left unturned in unearthing the truth behind the death.
Yator’s body was moved to Siloam Hospital Mortuary in Kericho County, as the school prepares for a requiem mass on March 12 and his final send-off on March 15 at his home in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Was it a peaceful death — or did someone want the Kaplong Principal silenced? Investigations will reveal whether Yator’s passing was a mere twist of fate or a plot hidden in the shadows.
