Member of Parliament for Kasipul, Charles Ong’ondo Were, has been shot and killed by unknown gunmen.

The incident is said to have happened along Ngong Road near City Mortuary.

According to witnesses, the two gunmen were trailing the lawmaker on a motorbike. They alighted and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.

Ong’ondo Were was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, with preliminary reports indicating he succumbed to the bullet wounds.

The deceased MP is believed to have been the main target of the assailants since his driver escaped unharmed.

According to a statement released by the ODM party, Ong’ondo Were spent the day at Parliament Buildings until 6:15 pm, when he left after participating in the business of the day. The party has called on investigative agencies to expedite investigations and bring the culprits to book.

“Hon. Were was in Parliament for the better part of the day and left at 6:15 pm after participating in the business of the day. While we join his constituents, the people of the great county of Homa Bay, his family, colleagues, and friends in mourning, we call on the police to investigate the shooting incident and bring the culprits to book,” the statement read.
