Following the Cabinet’s approval of the Finance Bill 2025 on Tuesday April 29, the bill was officially tabled in the National Assembly, to undergo a series of legislative process.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula acknowledged receiving the draft of the Finance Bill 2025 during a house sitting on Wednesday.

“I also wish to inform the House that I have received the draft Finance Bill 2025 from the Cabinet which relates to the revenue-raising measures for the budget submitted. It will be committed to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning for consideration and public participation upon public participation and first reading,” Speaker Wetangula said.

Wetangula however noted that the house is scheduled to proceed for recess to provide various parliamentary committees time to prepare for rigorous activities including debates, amendments and scrutiny of the bill.

He encouraged members to read and understand the bill correctly before giving out their opinions to the electorate adding that this was the only way the country would witness the implementation of a bill that serves everyone’s interests.

“I encourage members to actively acquaint themselves with the contents of the estimates and to participate in the exercise and ensure that their views and those of the electorate are taken into account during the consideration of the national budget,” Wetangula urged the lawmakers.

He continued: “Honourable Members, I encourage you, when these Bills are published, read them. Read them, analyse them, debate them in this House. Helpless villagers in funerals and public places out there, will not help you debate and pass appropriate budgeting processes in this House.”

According to the Cabinet resolutions, the Finance Bill 2025 focuses on minimizing the hiking of taxes rather than introducing new tax measures.
