The death toll across the country has risen to 49 following heavy rains experienced on Friday, March 6, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) has announced.

In a press statement on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, NPS stated that the deaths were as a result of the flooding. NPS asserted that thousands of families have also been displaced following the heavy downpours.
“Following the devastating rains on Friday, March 6, 2026, 49 people have unfortunately lost their lives nationwide as a result of the flooding. The National Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends who have lost loved ones during this difficult period,” read part of the statement.
According to NPS, the heavy rains left a total of 2,624 families homeless with infrastructure and property also damaged. The service also noted that 16 police stations across the country were affected.
Despite the destruction, police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring continuous delivery of policing services to the public.
NPS stated that police officers are working with other multi-agency response teams to conduct search operations, evacuate affected residents and maintain security.
“Our officers, in collaboration with other multi-agency response teams, remain actively deployed on the ground. These joint operations are focused on conducting search and rescue missions, evacuating residents in vulnerable areas, and providing security,” NPS stated.
The police further urged the public to exercise caution and continue following updates and safety advisories issued by the Kenya Metrological Department and other relevant government agencies.
Residents were also advised to report emergencies, distress situations or criminal activity through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, and 112, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
President Ruto on Saturday, March 7, 2026, directed the immediate deployment of a multi-agency emergency response team led by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, working closely with the Kenya Defence Forces and other emergency response agencies, to coordinate rescue efforts and support affected communities.
Ruto also ordered that relief food from the national strategic reserves be immediately released and distributed to families affected by the floods.
In addition, the Government will meet the hospital bills of those injured or affected by the flooding and currently receiving treatment in public health facilities.
Emergency humanitarian support will also be extended to families facing displacement and hardship during this period.
